Chrysanthemum carinatum 'Polar Star' – Tricolour Painted Daisy
- Description
Large, tricoloured daisies with pure white outer petals, a glowing yellow inner halo, and a dark velvet eye at the centre — an unforgettable combination that looks hand-painted. 'Polar Star' is an easy-to-grow hardy annual that flowers generously from early summer to autumn, drawing bees and butterflies to the border and making long-lasting, cheerful cut flowers.
Easy and fast from seed. Sow just 1 cm deep under cover in March or April for an earlier start, or direct outdoors from April to May once the soil has warmed. Thin or transplant seedlings to 20 × 30 cm spacing in a sunny spot with fertile, well-drained soil. Pinch out the growing tips of young plants to encourage bushy, multi-stemmed growth and more flowers. Water regularly during dry spells and deadhead spent blooms to keep new buds coming right through to the first autumn frost. Naturally disease-resistant and rarely troubled by pests.
Harvest in the morning when the flowers have just fully opened — expect 7–10 days of vase life in fresh water. The striking white-yellow-black combination acts as a natural focal point in mixed arrangements and pairs beautifully with cornflowers, cosmos, and grasses. A generous cut-and-come-again variety: the more you pick, the more it flowers.
Guaranteed fresh.
