Achillea millefolium 'Mix' – Mixed Yarrow
- Description
A curated mix of yarrow in warm yellows, glowing oranges, soft pinks, and salmon tones — each plant a little different, creating the kind of naturally varied tapestry that looks instantly at home in a relaxed cottage border. The flat-topped flower heads form distinct patches of colour above feathery, fern-like foliage, drawing bees and butterflies in all summer long.
Plant bare roots from March to May at 10–15 cm deep, spacing each one 30–50 cm apart so the clumps have room to spread. Yarrow genuinely prefers lean, well-drained soil in full sun — too much richness or moisture makes stems flop. Drought-tolerant once established and perfectly hardy through Baltic winters, this mix asks almost nothing in return for months of colour. Cut back spent flower heads in midsummer to encourage a second flush, and lift and divide the clumps every three or four years to keep them vigorous. Looks especially good planted in generous drifts among ornamental grasses.
Cut when the flat flower heads are fully open and showing pollen — stems taken too early will wilt. Expect 7–10 days of vase life in fresh water. For drying, hang bunches upside-down in a dark, airy place; the warm yellows and oranges hold their colour especially well through winter, making beautiful additions to dried wreaths and rustic arrangements.
