Achillea millefolium 'Lachsschönheit' – Pale Pink Yarrow
- Description
Large, flat umbels in soft salmon-pink and apricot rise on sturdy stems above a mound of finely cut, fern-like foliage — a romantic variation on the classic wild yarrow, perfectly at home in rustic and naturalistic plantings. 'Lachsschönheit' (German for "salmon beauty") blooms generously from early summer through autumn, its warm tones mellowing gradually as the season progresses.
Plant rhizomes directly into the border in spring, choosing an open, sunny spot with light, well-drained soil — ideally slightly alkaline. Yarrow thrives on lean ground and dislikes heavy or waterlogged conditions. A single application of compost each year is all the feeding it needs. Drought-tolerant once established and fully frost-hardy across the Baltic region, 'Lachsschönheit' returns reliably year after year and forms increasingly generous clumps. Lift and divide every three or four years in spring to keep the clumps fresh and vigorous.
Cut when the umbels are fully open and showing pollen — stems taken too early will wilt. Expect 7–10 days of vase life in fresh water. The soft salmon tones are particularly beautiful in romantic cottage-style bouquets alongside roses, scabious, and grasses. For drying, hang bunches upside-down in a dark, airy place; the heads keep their form and subtle colour for winter arrangements.
Guaranteed fresh.
